United States Agency for International Development

The main stages of the development.

USAID was created by John F. Kennedy in 1961. USAID became the first U.S. foreign assistance organization whose primary emphasis was on long-range economic and social development assistance efforts.

At first, there were two programs - (1) a Development Loan Fund whose primary purpose was to foster plans and programs to "develop economic resources and increase productive capacities" (i.e., a significant amount of capital infrastructure), and (2) a Development Grant Fund, to focus on "assisting the development of human resources through such means as programs of technical cooperation and development" in less developed countries.

Actions of the USAID.

The mission of this Agency is to end extreme poverty and to promote resilient, democratic societies while advancing their security and prosperity.

USAID have different departments, for example – USAID Central Asia, USAID Africa, USAID Ukraine, etc. On their web-site we can find the inset called “Democracy, human rights and governance”, we are particularly interested in this inset because through the actions of “providing democracy” USAID can impose its influence. Is it true or USAID is just a noble and honest organization created only to help people?

In 2012 USAID launched the Center of Excellence on Democracy, Human rights and Governance in order to measure and evaluate what works best in democracy and share its practices with the world community. They outline their successful campaigns. Of course, those campaigns were designed to help people who suffered during crises in their countries but we can ask a question if we look attentively on the list of these countries – are not they exposed to the American influence and can they do whatever they want in their countries without the American approval?

The actions of the USAID are very much criticized throughout the world. Notably, Russians do not approve their financial aid in Ukraine during the Ukrainian revolution this year (2014). Moreover, the Russian Foreign Office blamed the USAID in their attempts to influence the external political processes in Russia through the system of distribution of grants to political processes (including regional elections). All in all, Russian office of USAID was closed in 2012.

Furthermore, USAID can impose the American influence through the social networks. For example, they created ZunZuneo (Twitter a-like) in Cuba to spread the protest mood among young people, USAID also gathered the personal information about the users of this network.

Conclusion.

To sum up, we can see that USAID was designed not only to provide financial and humanitarian aid to developing countries but also to impose the American influence and to be the so-called spies in different parts of the world. So, nothing changed since the times of WWI, the USA is still trying to capture the whole world in geopolitical sense, they want to become a truly world’s leader.
